FAQs

Clear answers, without overpromising.

A starting point for common questions about management system certification and N1X’s current operating position.

What is management system certification?

An independent assessment process used to determine whether an organization’s management system conforms to defined requirements.

What is the difference between certification and accreditation?

Certification concerns an organization’s management system. Accreditation is a formal recognition of a certification body’s competence by an accreditation body. They are distinct.

How does the certification process work?

It typically moves from enquiry and application review through scope confirmation, assessment planning, audit, corrective action where required, and an independent certification decision.

What documents may be required?

The relevant management system information, scope details, documented processes and records that demonstrate implementation may be requested. Requirements depend on the scope.

How long can an assessment take?

The duration depends on factors such as organization size, complexity, locations, personnel and scope. A specific duration should be confirmed after application review.

What is a nonconformity?

A finding that a requirement has not been fulfilled. The applicable response and follow-up depend on the nature and severity of the finding.

What happens after certification?

Where certification is approved, ongoing activities such as surveillance and renewal may apply according to the agreed programme and applicable requirements.
